2016 Vauxhall Corsa 1.4L Petrol · B7 KOX

Rear brake pad wear and emerging tyre surface degradation dominate the recent MOT observations, yet the test was passed on 9 December 2025, confirming that the vehicle still meets the legal minimum standards. The advisory on thin rear brake pads and the dual notes of slight damage or cracking on both rear tyres indicate a focused area of wear that has begun to surface after several years of relatively low‑stress operation. Earlier advisories were limited to a front tyre sidewall issue in 2021, and no outright failures have been recorded, suggesting a generally clean roadworthiness record aside from the current wear items. At 59 700 miles recorded for a 2016 model, the average annual accumulation is roughly 5 970 miles, well below the typical UK usage pattern for a vehicle of this age. The mileage progression shows no abrupt spikes between tests, implying steady, light‑to‑moderate use rather than periods of intensive high‑speed driving. Low annual mileage can be beneficial for engine and transmission longevity, but it also means that rubber components such as tyre sidewalls and brake pad material have aged more by calendar time than by wear, potentially leading to brittleness or cracking even at modest distances. When inspecting the brakes, feel for a firm, progressive pedal travel and listen for any squealing or grinding that would suggest the thin rear pads have approached their minimum thickness or that the discs are unevenly worn. A pulsating pedal or a noticeable fade under repeated braking would warrant immediate pad replacement and possibly rotor resurfacing. Examine the rear tyres closely for surface cracks, sidewall bulges, or loss of tread depth; any irregularities could compromise grip, especially in wet conditions, and may necessitate replacement of one or both tyres to maintain balanced handling. During a test drive, monitor for vibrations through the steering wheel or floorboard that could indicate tyre damage or developing suspension issues. Given the absence of structural or emission failures in the MOT history, the primary mechanical risk lies in the wear‑related items already flagged. A comprehensive pre‑purchase inspection should verify that the rear brake pads have been measured and, if required, replaced, and that the rear tyres are either within acceptable tread limits or have been renewed. Additionally, a visual check of the suspension bushes, steering linkage, and under‑body for any hidden corrosion will help ensure that the low‑mileage benefit has not been offset by age‑related degradation. A careful test drive focusing on braking performance, steering response, and tyre feel will provide the final confirmation of roadworthiness before purchase.
