1999 Toyota Landcruiser Colorado 3.0L Diesel · BCZ 2113

The most recent MOT test on 2026-09-01 resulted in a clean pass, indicating that the vehicle has met all current roadworthiness standards without any recorded defects. However, the overall maintenance trend over the past decade is mixed, with several failures and advisories that suggest underlying issues requiring attention. The near-side stop lamp failure in 2021 and the ineffective windscreen wiper in 2018 indicate recurring electrical and functional deficiencies that may have been addressed but could recur if not properly maintained. The advisory from 2019 regarding offside rear structural corrosion at the tow bar mounting point is particularly noteworthy, as it highlights a potential long-term concern for vehicle integrity, especially if the vehicle is used for towing or heavy loads. While the majority of MOTs have passed, the presence of these advisories and past failures suggests that the vehicle has faced some wear and tear, particularly in electrical systems and structural components. The vehicle’s mileage of 188,543 miles over approximately 27 years represents an average annual usage of around 7,000 miles, which is relatively modest for a high-capacity off-road vehicle like the Toyota Land Cruiser Colorado. Such a mileage profile often reflects a combination of infrequent driving, long periods of storage, or limited operational demands. However, lower mileage can also mask hidden issues, such as corrosion from prolonged standing, particularly in exposed areas like the undercarriage, wheel arches, and structural joints. The suspension and drivetrain components, which are prone to wear from both mileage and environmental exposure, may have accumulated more stress than a higher-mileage vehicle would suggest. Additionally, if the vehicle has been stored in damp or salty conditions, the risk of corrosion—especially in the exhaust system, brake components, and electrical wiring—could be elevated. The absence of recent high-mileage spikes does not guarantee absence of wear, but it does imply that the vehicle has not been subjected to extreme operational demands. Given the vehicle’s age and the presence of past MOT advisories, particularly the structural corrosion warning, the buyer should conduct a thorough inspection of the undercarriage, focusing on the tow bar mounting area, wheel arches, and underbody for signs of rust progression or weakening. The tow bar mounting point is critical for towing safety, and any visible corrosion or loosening of bolts could compromise structural integrity. On a test drive, listen for unusual noises from the suspension, particularly clunks or rattles that may indicate worn suspension bushes, broken coil spring mounts, or damaged control arm bushings. Uneven tyre wear patterns could signal misalignment or suspension issues, while a shuddering brake pedal might indicate warped discs or binding calipers, especially if the vehicle has been stationary for extended periods. The near-side stop lamp failure from 2021 should prompt a check of the wiring harness and fuses, as well as the stop lamp bulb and relay, to ensure they are functioning correctly. Additionally, verify the windscreen wiper mechanism, as the 2018 failure suggests it may have been neglected, leading to potential windscreen damage or reduced visibility in adverse conditions. For practical checks beyond the MOT history, the buyer should examine the tyres for sidewall cracking or perishing, which is more likely in a vehicle of this age, even with moderate mileage. Inspect the 12V battery and associated wiring for signs of corrosion or damage, as standing vehicles can lead to battery drain or failure. Check the brake discs and linings for corrosion, binding, or uneven wear, particularly if the vehicle has been stationary for long periods, as this can cause brake shudder or reduced braking performance. Fluid levels, including brake fluid, coolant, and transmission fluid, should be checked for contamination or degradation, as these fluids can break down over time regardless of mileage. Finally, verify that the service book or maintenance records are up to date, as the Toyota Land Cruiser Colorado typically requires scheduled fluid changes and component replacements at specific intervals, even if mileage is low. If the vehicle has been stored for extended periods, consider a comprehensive inspection by a qualified mechanic to address any latent issues before purchase.
