1985 Austin MINI 1.4L Petrol · C762 OKF

The vehicle most recently passed its MOT on 11 August 2025 with no defects recorded. Looking back over the previous four years of testing, the maintenance trend is exceptionally stable, with a consistent record of clean passes and a complete absence of advisories. This suggests a vehicle that has been kept in a high state of readiness or maintained to a very rigorous standard, providing a strong baseline for its current roadworthiness. The recorded mileage of 3,337 miles is remarkably low for a vehicle of this age, averaging approximately 81 miles per year over its 41-year lifespan. While this indicates minimal mechanical wear on the internal engine components and drivetrain, such a low usage rate often points to extended periods of standing. This profile shifts the mechanical risk from typical wear-and-tear to degradation caused by inactivity, which requires a specific approach to inspection. Given the lack of MOT defects and the low mileage, the primary focus during a physical inspection should be on age-related perishing and the effects of standing. You must carefully examine the tyre sidewalls for fine cracking or dry rot, as tyres can become unsafe due to age even if the tread remains deep. Similarly, inspect all rubber suspension bushes and coolant hoses for hardening or splitting. The braking system should be scrutinized for binding calipers or seized drums, and any excessive surface corrosion on the brake discs should be noted, as these are common symptoms of a vehicle that has spent significant time stationary. Attention must also be paid to calendar-based maintenance rather than mileage-based intervals. Verify the service history to ensure that engine oil, coolant, and brake fluid have been replaced regularly to prevent internal corrosion and fluid acidification. Check the 12V battery health and look for signs of previous leaks or corrosion around the battery tray. Finally, despite the clean MOT history, a thorough inspection of the structural integrity is essential for a Mini of this vintage; specifically, check the sills, floor pans, and A-panels for any signs of bubbling or hidden corrosion that may not have been flagged as a failure point but could impact long-term viability.
