2012 Vauxhall Astra 1.7L Diesel · CE62 PLF

A consistently clean MOT record across five consecutive annual tests, with the most recent pass recorded on 18 September 2025 and no advisories or defects recorded in any of the last five examinations, paints a reassuring picture of this 2012 Vauxhall Astra's underlying roadworthiness. With no brake, suspension, tyre, exhaust, corrosion, or structural advisories ever logged, the vehicle has avoided the typical wear-related flags that commonly emerge on cars of this vintage, suggesting that the major safety-critical systems have remained within legal tolerances throughout its testing life. The absence of any recorded advisories over a five-year MOT window is particularly notable for a fourteen-year-old vehicle, as it indicates that components typically subject to progressive degradation, such as brake components, coil springs, and suspension linkages, have either been diligently replaced before reaching advisory thresholds or simply have not yet worn to the point of examiner concern. The most recent clean pass, taken alongside four prior defect-free results, demonstrates a stable rather than deteriorating mechanical trend. With 91,827 miles recorded over approximately fourteen years of age, this Astra has averaged around 6,559 miles per year, which sits comfortably within the expected range for a car of its age and is broadly consistent with typical commuter or mixed-use driving patterns. There are no significant gaps in the annual MOT testing record, with tests conducted in consecutive years from 2021 through 2025, which means the vehicle has not been laid up for any extended undocumented periods and has been in regular road use. This steady, moderate annual accumulation is mechanically favourable: it implies that consumables such as brake pads, discs, tyres, and clutch components have been worked regularly rather than seized from disuse, while the mileage itself is not so high as to suggest imminent major drivetrain or engine wear milestones. The consistent year-on-year presence on the road also provides a continuous data trail, giving a more reliable picture of mechanical condition than a vehicle with intermittent testing. Although the advisory-free record removes many of the usual pre-purchase concerns, a prospective buyer should still carry out a targeted physical and dynamic inspection appropriate to a car of this age and mileage. On a test drive, listen carefully for any clonks or knocks from the front suspension when traversing speed bumps or uneven surfaces, as the front MacPherson strut and lower control arm assemblies on Astras of this generation are prone to worn bushes and bottom ball joints that do not always manifest as immediate MOT advisories. Pay particular attention to brake feel, checking for any judder through the steering wheel or pedal under firm braking, which can indicate warped front discs, and listen for any scraping or grinding that might suggest worn pads close to the disc surface. Inspect the underside visually where possible for any signs of oil misting around the engine and gearbox sumps, corrosion along the rear axle beam, and the condition of the fuel and brake lines, as these items are common age-related concerns even on otherwise clean MOT records. Additionally, examine the condition of all tyres for even wear across the tread, which can reveal underlying alignment issues or worn suspension components, and verify that matching tyre brands and sizes are fitted across each axle. Check that all dashboard warning lamps extinguish promptly after engine start, particularly the engine management and emissions warning lights, as Vauxhall petrol engines of this era can develop lambda sensor and ignition coil faults with age. Open the bonnet and inspect coolant and oil filler caps for any signs of mayonnaise-like residue, which could indicate head gasket concerns, and confirm that the oil level on the dipstick is at the maximum mark with clean, dark-coloured oil. Finally, verify the operation of all electrical systems including the central locking, electric windows, air conditioning, and infotainment functionality, as electrical gremlins are a known weakness on this generation of Astra. Despite the immaculate MOT history, a pre-purchase inspection by an independent Vauxhall specialist remains advisable to confirm the condition of items not covered during standard MOT testing.
