2007 Land Rover Discovery 2.7L Diesel · CF57 DXK

The vehicle most recently passed its MOT on 28 January 2026, but the overall maintenance trend is currently deteriorating. While the vehicle has a consistent history of passing, the latest inspection reveals a significant increase in the number of advisories compared to previous years, specifically regarding the steering and suspension systems. This suggests that the vehicle is entering a phase of accelerated component wear, moving from minor surface corrosion to functional degradation of critical chassis and steering parts. With a recorded mileage of 159,495 miles over nineteen years, the vehicle has averaged approximately 8,394 miles per year. This is considered typical usage for a vehicle of this age and type. However, at this mileage threshold, the drivetrain and chassis components are subject to significant fatigue. Prospective buyers should expect that many of the original rubber bushings and articulated joints have reached the end of their natural service life, necessitating a comprehensive review of the vehicle's mechanical health beyond the basic MOT requirements. The most recent MOT highlights several concerns regarding the suspension and steering geometry. The presence of play in the front steering rack inner joint and the offside front lower ball joint, combined with worn rear suspension bushes, indicates a likely degradation in handling precision. During a test drive, the buyer should listen for knocking or clunking sounds when traversing uneven surfaces or during low-speed manoeuvring. There is also a recurring issue with brake pipe corrosion, specifically the nearside rear pipe being covered in grease, which is often used to mask oxidation. This requires a thorough physical inspection to ensure the structural integrity of the braking system is not compromised. Further attention must be paid to the braking system and general chassis corrosion. A previous advisory for a binding offside rear brake suggests potential caliper seizure, which can lead to premature disc wear and reduced fuel efficiency. The buyer should check for excessive heat emanating from the rear wheels after a drive and inspect the brake discs for uneven scoring. Given the recorded surface corrosion on the underside and the fuel tank cover, a detailed inspection of the chassis rails and load-bearing members is essential to ensure that surface rust has not progressed into structural perforation, which is a common vulnerability for this model.
