1965 Sunbeam Alpine 1.7L Petrol · CKN 349C

This Sunbeam Alpine’s most recent MOT test on 29 April 2022 confirmed full roadworthiness with no recorded defects, though the absence of subsequent tests raises immediate concerns. The vehicle’s last inspection occurred over four years ago—far beyond the standard 12-month MOT cycle—meaning critical components like brakes, suspension, and emissions systems have not been formally assessed since. Without intervening tests, there is no evidence of proactive maintenance, and the vehicle’s condition could have deteriorated significantly in areas not covered by the 2022 pass, such as structural integrity or hidden corrosion. The recorded mileage of 62,391 miles over approximately 61 years suggests exceptionally light use, averaging just over 1,000 miles annually. While low mileage typically indicates less wear on consumables, it also implies prolonged periods of inactivity, which can accelerate deterioration in rubber components (e.g., suspension bushes, seals) and accelerate corrosion in critical areas like the chassis and subframe. The lack of MOT tests during this period means there is no data to confirm whether basic upkeep—such as fluid changes, tyre rotations, or brake inspections—has been consistently applied. The sparse record does not rule out neglect, but it does not provide clarity on whether the vehicle has been stored properly or driven responsibly. Given the extended gap since the last MOT, a buyer should prioritise an independent inspection of high-risk areas. The suspension—particularly coil springs, bushes, and shock absorbers—will require thorough examination for dry rot or fatigue, especially given the vehicle’s age. Brake systems, including calipers, pads, and discs, should be checked for uneven wear or binding, as the 2022 pass does not guarantee they remain functional. Structural integrity is another critical concern; the chassis and subframe should be inspected for corrosion, particularly around welds and wheel arches, where rust can compromise load-bearing capacity. Exhaust emissions and catalytic converter efficiency, if applicable, will also need verification, as these systems degrade over time without regular testing. The absence of recent MOT data means no assurances exist regarding the reliability of these systems.
