2005 Mazda 3 1.6L Petrol · CW05 GOK

The vehicle presents a questionable roadworthiness profile characterized by a pattern of immediate failures followed by clean passes. The most recent entry on 28 December 2022 at 186,025 miles resulted in a failure with no specific defects recorded in the summary, which suggests a significant mechanical or emissions issue was present that prevented a pass. Given that over three years have passed since this last recorded test, the vehicle is currently operating without a valid MOT, and the maintenance trend remains unstable. The recurring failures indicate a reactive rather than proactive ownership maintenance strategy. At 186,025 miles, the Mazda has averaged approximately 8,850 miles per year, which aligns with typical UK usage patterns for a 21-year-old car. The data shows consistent intervals between tests, with roughly 3,700 miles covered between December 2020 and December 2021, and another 3,195 miles between December 2021 and December 2022. While the mileage suggests the car has not been excessively driven, the high cumulative mileage places significant stress on the drivetrain, suspension bushings, and structural components. A buyer must conduct a thorough physical inspection focusing on common failure points for this generation of Mazda, specifically the rear sills, subframe, and wheel arches for structural corrosion. The history lacks detailed advisories on previous passes, which often indicates that testers did not flag minor wear items until they reached a failure threshold. Attention should be paid to the brake calipers for binding and the suspension geometry, as the repeated immediate test failures suggest the vehicle may be prone to sudden-onset issues. Because the MOT is expired, the risk of discovering hidden mechanical faults or structural rot is high.
