2005 Toyota Celica 1.8L Petrol · CX05 FTV

The current roadworthiness status of this vehicle is concerning due to the most recent test failure on 6 November 2025 at 112,938 miles. While the vehicle maintained a clean record for three consecutive years between 2022 and 2024, the sudden failure without recorded defects suggests either an administrative issue or a critical mechanical fault that prevented the test from proceeding. The lack of specific advisory items in the preceding years provides little insight into the vehicle's underlying condition, indicating that the maintenance history is effectively opaque rather than pristine. The recorded mileage of 112,938 over twenty-one years averages approximately 5,378 miles annually, which is notably low for a vehicle of this age. The accumulation pattern remains consistent, with roughly 3,000 miles covered between the November 2023 and November 2024 tests. This suggests the car has been used sparingly, though the risk with such low-usage vehicles often lies in the degradation of rubber components, seals, and fuel systems that suffer from prolonged periods of inactivity. Prospective buyers must conduct a rigorous physical inspection to compensate for the lack of detailed MOT history. Focus specifically on the structural integrity of the chassis and subframes, as 2005 Celicas are prone to corrosion in the sills and rear wheel arches. Inspect the suspension bushes, ball joints, and coil springs for signs of perishing or fatigue, as these items often escape notice during superficial inspections. Given the unexplained failure in November 2025, verify the operation of all safety-critical systems, including the braking efficiency and exhaust emissions, before committing to a purchase.
