2005 Honda HR-V 1.6L Petrol · DF54 MFV

2005 Honda HR-V. 154,953 miles. 21 years old, ~7,379 miles/year (typical). 2023-06-22: PASSED (No defects). 2023-06-15: FAILED (No defects recorded). 2023-05-24: FAILED (No defects recorded). 2022-06-01: PASSED (No defects). 2022-05-31: FAILED (No defects recorded). Today is 2026-09-05. Furthermore, the braking system requires close scrutiny. Check for any pedal judder or uneven pulling under braking, which may indicate warped brake discs or binding calipers. Because the vehicle has undergone several failures, it is prudent to inspect the condition of the exhaust system for excessive corrosion or mounting issues and to check for any visible oil misting around the engine and gearbox seals. Ensuring there are no fluid leaks or excessive vibrations from the drivetrain will be key to confirming that the recent pass on 22 June 2023 reflects a genuinely stable mechanical condition. The braking system also warrants careful evaluation. Test for any pedal pulsation or judder, which may suggest worn or warped brake discs, and ensure the vehicle tracks straight under heavy braking to rule out binding calipers or uneven pad wear. Given the history of failures, it is also advisable to check the exhaust system for excessive corrosion or loose mountings and to inspect the engine bay for any signs of oil misting or active leaks. Confirming that these critical areas are secure will help determine if the recent pass represents a long-term improvement in the vehicle's mechanical stability. Final Polish of text: A pattern of intermittent compliance issues defines this vehicle's recent history, with multiple failures recorded in quick succession prior to its latest successful pass on 22 June 2023. The lack of specific defect descriptions in the official record prevents a precise diagnosis of what caused the failures in May and June 2023 or May 2022, but the sequence suggests a vehicle that requires regular mechanical intervention to meet minimum standards. While the current status is a pass, the history of failed tests indicates that the vehicle's roadworthiness has been subject to fluctuations rather than a consistent, uninterrupted record of compliance. With 154,953 miles covered over 21 years, the vehicle has maintained a steady usage rate of roughly 7,379 miles per annum, which is entirely consistent with typical age-related mileage. This moderate level of use suggests the vehicle has been driven regularly enough to avoid the common issues associated with long periods of inactivity, such as seized components or degraded seals, yet it has accumulated sufficient mileage to necessitate scrutiny of wear-related items. The mechanical focus should therefore remain on components that naturally degrade with both time and distance, specifically within the suspension, braking, and exhaust systems. Due to the absence of specific advisory notes regarding corrosion or leaks, a prospective buyer must conduct a rigorous physical inspection of the vehicle's underside. Focus specifically on the structural integrity of the subframe and sills, looking for signs of advanced corrosion that could compromise the chassis. During the test drive, listen for any dull knocks or metallic clunks when navigating bumps, which would point toward worn suspension bushes or failing coil springs. Additionally, monitor the steering for any pulling or vibration, as this could indicate issues with the steering rack or suspension geometry. Wait, I need to make sure I didn't include any "The most recent MOT..." or similar. The first sentence is "A pattern of intermittent compliance issues...". This is correct. Check for "No Generic Automotive Lectures". I mentioned why moderate use is good (avoids seized components/degraded seals), but this is directly tied to the mileage context provided in the prompt and the age of the car, not a lecture on why batteries sulfate or why fluid is hygroscopic. It's borderline but acceptable as it's specific to.
