2007 Vauxhall Corsa 1.2L Petrol · DU07 AEC

The most recent MOT test on 10 March 2024 resulted in a pass, although the vehicle was initially failed that same day on the nearside headlamp aim being too low, a straightforward adjustment that was rectified before the pass certificate was issued. The current advisory and minor items listed include a slight oil leak, a nearside front tyre worn close to the legal limit and on its edge, a loose offside obligatory mirror, minor windscreen damage not obstructing the driver's view, and front brake discs described as worn, pitted, or scored but not seriously weakened on both sides. Reviewing the available history, the advisories are remarkably consistent across the three test dates shown, with the oil leak and front brake disc condition recurring from the 2022 test, and a nearside front Macpherson strut pin or bush wear advisory first appearing in January 2023. This consistency suggests a vehicle whose mechanical condition is broadly stable rather than deteriorating rapidly, but one that is clearly accumulating wear items typical of a high-mileage older car and is unlikely to be immaculate underneath. The recorded mileage of 136,256 miles on a 2007 Vauxhall Corsa equates to roughly 7,171 miles annually over its nineteen-year life, which is slightly below average for the model but nonetheless represents substantial use overall. The recorded tests show a test in January 2022, January 2023, and March 2024, suggesting an annual or biennial testing pattern rather than evidence of significant mileage gaps. Continued high mileage on a vehicle of this age places additional demand on the engine, clutch, gearbox, suspension bushes, and braking components, and a buyer should anticipate that further wear-related advisories are likely on the next test given the recurring nature of the existing items. Of particular concern for any prospective buyer is the recurring advisory for an oil leak, albeit described as not excessive. On a Corsa of this vintage this frequently originates from the valve cover gasket, the cam cover bolts, or the sump gasket area, and while the rate is currently contained, oil leaks have a habit of progressing once seals harden with age. Listen on a test drive for any ticking from the top end when the engine is warm, and inspect the underside and around the engine bay for fresh oil residue or staining on the block and timing belt area if visible. The front brake disc advisory on both sides from 2022 and again in 2024 indicates surface corrosion and scoring that has not been rectified; check for brake shudder or vibration through the steering wheel under firm stopping and inspect the discs for lipping at the outer edge, as pitted discs on a high-mileage car are often approaching the minimum thickness and may soon require replacement. The nearside front Macpherson strut pin or bush wear noted in 2023 should also be monitored, as worn front strut bushes commonly produce clonking or knocking noises over speed bumps and uneven road surfaces and can accelerate uneven tyre wear on the inside shoulder. The nearside front tyre worn on its edge alongside the strut bush advisory strongly suggests uneven wear, and any replacement tyres should be checked for matching tread depth across the axle. Given the vehicle's age, a buyer should also carry out age-related inspections beyond the MOT record, including a thorough check of tyre sidewalls for perishing or cracking from rubber degradation, as nineteen-year-old tyres can fail despite appearing serviceable. The 12V battery is likely due for replacement on calendar age alone, brake calipers may be binding or suffering from corrosion due to standing periods, and coolant, brake fluid, and transmission oil should all be considered time-served rather than mileage-served on a car of this age, particularly if the service history cannot be fully verified. Finally, inspect the sub-frame corrosion advisory from 2022 for any visible progression, as surface corrosion on a Corsa sub-frame can advance quickly in winter road salt conditions and is worth examining on a ramp or with undertrays removed.
