2012 Volkswagen Passat 2.0L Diesel · DY61 KPV

A consistent track record of clean roadworthiness defines this vehicle, following a period of minor component advisories between 2020 and 2022. While the earlier records noted issues with brake disc corrosion and suspension linkage play, the most recent inspections, including the pass on 22 January 2026, show no recorded defects or advisories. This indicates a trend of resolving previously noted wear items, moving from a period of minor component degradation to a current state of zero recorded advisories. The vehicle has covered 79,934 miles over its 14-year lifespan, representing an average annual usage of approximately 5,710 miles. This is significantly lower than the UK average for a vehicle of this age and class. Mechanically, such low annual mileage can result in less wear on high-use consumables like brake pads and tyres, but it can also mean components are subjected to fewer thermal cycles and less frequent movement, which was reflected in the earlier advisories regarding brake disc corrosion. Prospective buyers should pay close attention to the suspension and braking systems during a physical inspection and test drive. Although the 2022 advisory regarding play in the nearside front anti-roll bar linkage ball joint has not reappeared in recent tests, it is prudent to listen for any rhythmic knocking or clunking sounds when traversing uneven road surfaces or speed bumps. Such noises often indicate that suspension bushes or linkage joints are beginning to perish or develop play. Regarding the braking system, the history of inner-face corrosion on the offside front disc between 2020 and 2021 suggests that the vehicle may have experienced periods of inactivity or low-intensity use. During a test drive, it is essential to check for any pedal judder or vibrations under braking, which could indicate uneven disc wear or surface irregularities. Ensuring the steering remains straight and free from pulling under braking will confirm that any previous corrosion or binding issues have been fully addressed.
