1996 MG RV8 3.9L Petrol · E19 MGR

The vehicle demonstrates a stable roadworthiness trend, with no defects recorded in its last four MOT tests, including the most recent 2025-05-12 assessment at 2,995 miles. All prior tests from 2024 to 2021 also showed passing results with no recorded issues. This consistency suggests the car has been maintained to a standard that meets legal requirements, though the absence of defects does not preclude hidden mechanical or structural concerns. The low mileage and extended intervals between tests indicate minimal usage, which may affect component longevity despite the clean MOT history. The mileage pattern reflects infrequent use, with the car accumulating just 100 miles annually over 30 years. The MOT records show gradual increases, such as from 1,667 miles in 2021-03-03 to 1,865 miles in 2021-09-01, followed by a slower rise to 1,921 miles by 2023-05-23. These gaps suggest periods of inactivity, which could lead to issues like seized suspension components, dry-rotted rubber parts, or corrosion in the exhaust system. The lack of rapid mileage growth reduces wear on consumables but does not eliminate risks associated with prolonged storage or underuse. A buyer should prioritise inspecting the suspension for worn bushes or coil springs, as inactivity may cause stiffness or binding. Brake calipers and discs should be checked for corrosion or sticking, while the exhaust system requires close scrutiny for rust. Structural integrity is likely intact given the clean MOTs, but the vehicle’s age and low mileage necessitate a thorough underbody inspection for hidden corrosion. Electrical systems and fluid levels should also be verified, as prolonged inactivity may have led to degradation not captured in the MOT records.
