2006 Toyota Yaris 1.3L Petrol · EA56 AEY

The most recent MOT test on 2025-11-06 confirms the vehicle remains roadworthy, though the immediate preceding test on 2025-07-21 failed without recorded defects—a pattern that repeats from the 2024 cycle (failed on 2024-04-12, passed on 2024-04-19). This suggests the vehicle was likely driven to a test centre shortly after the failure date, passing on the retest without addressing underlying issues. The absence of defects in any test implies no major mechanical failures were formally documented, but the repeated failures without explanation raise questions about whether minor issues were overlooked or corrected privately. The latest test was conducted just six months ago, which is acceptable but not optimal for a vehicle of this age and mileage. The recorded mileage of 120,232 miles over 20 years equates to approximately 6,000 miles annually, a rate consistent with typical light-to-moderate usage. However, the gap between the 2023 and 2024 tests—spanning 14 months—indicates a period of inactivity or irregular maintenance, as the vehicle was not tested during that time. The subsequent 2024 failure and pass within a week suggest a rushed retest, which may have masked deeper concerns. No advisories or defects were recorded, so there is no evidence of neglected structural corrosion or major drivetrain issues, but the irregular testing pattern warrants scrutiny of wear-and-tear components. Given the lack of documented faults, the primary focus for an in-person inspection should be the suspension system, particularly the rear bushes and coil springs, which are prone to wear at this mileage. The repeated failures without defects could imply binding calipers or uneven brake pad wear, so the brake discs and callipers should be checked for corrosion or uneven wear patterns. Tyres, though not flagged in tests, may show uneven tread due to alignment issues or prolonged underinflation. Finally, inspect the underbody for corrosion around the sills, subframe, and exhaust system, as these areas are critical for structural integrity and often overlooked in basic MOT checks. The absence of advisories does not guarantee these areas are sound, but they should be thoroughly examined.
