2004 Volkswagen Passat 1.9L Diesel · EG53 ABX

The vehicle presents a stable roadworthiness profile, showing a consistent maintenance trend over the last three years. The most recent inspection on 20 December 2024 at 167,961 miles resulted in no defects, indicating that the car met all safety and environmental standards. While a failure was recorded in December 2023, the immediate re-test pass on the same day suggests the owner was proactive in addressing identified faults to maintain compliance. The mileage pattern is consistent with a 22-year-old vehicle, averaging approximately 7,600 miles per year. Between December 2021 and December 2024, the car covered 24,739 miles, reflecting a steady usage rate rather than long periods of inactivity or heavy commercial strain. There are no significant gaps in the history that would suggest neglect, though the total mileage of over 167,000 miles places inherent stress on aged rubber components and fluid systems irrespective of annual distance. Given the clean records of the most recent tests, a physical inspection should focus on the structural integrity of the Passat, as vehicles of this era are prone to corrosion in the sills, wheel arches, and subframes. The buyer should check the suspension bushings for wear and inspect the brake lines for corrosion, which often occurs at this age. Although the history shows no recurring mechanical failures, checking for oil leaks and coolant consistency is necessary to ensure the high-mileage engine remains well-maintained beyond the MOT requirements.
