- Heater fan motor overheating and fire risk (recall R/2013/082)Serious
DVSA recall R/2013/082 covers Pixos built between 3 November 2008 and 22 June 2012 - 14,548 in the UK. The heater fan motor can seize at slow fan speed, the internal temperature of the fan circuit rises, and if the thermal fuse does not cut out the fan and its surroundings overheat. Nissan's own defect wording warns the driver will find smoke coming out of the heater vents and that in extreme circumstances there could be a vehicle fire. The fix is an upgraded thermal fuse, but cars that have changed hands several times are often untreated because the campaign was never re-registered.
- Fuel pump seating leak when refuelling (recall R/2009/144)Serious
The DVSA's Pixo recall notice for campaign R/2009/144, launched in January 2010, covers 3,930 cars built between 2 March 2009 and 22 August 2009. A production dimensional variation in the fuel pump seating can let petrol leak from around the pump seal while the tank is being filled, which is a classic MOT fuel system failure and an obvious fire risk. The remedy replaces the pump gasket and O-ring. Because the leak only shows under a full flow of fuel, many owners never noticed it - which is why you should test it yourself in the forecourt.
