1988 Harley-Davidson XLH 883 0.9L Petrol · F762 APW

The Harley-Davidson XLH 883 currently displays a clean maintenance record, passing its most recent MOT test on April 9, 2022, with zero defects recorded. Because no subsequent tests appear on the DVSA database leading up to August 2026, the machine has likely spent a prolonged period off the road, SORN, or stored in a private collection. This single clean certificate provides a snapshot of roadworthiness at that specific date, but it offers no recent trajectory to determine whether the mechanical condition has remained stable or deteriorated during years of inactivity. With 15,651 miles recorded over approximately thirty-eight years, the motorcycle averages a mere 412 miles annually. This exceptionally low usage pattern points toward light recreational deployment or extended periods of standing rather than daily commuting. Extended storage frequently introduces specific mechanical hazards for carbureted V-twin engines and older motorcycles, notably fuel varnish in the carburettor jets, seized internal brake components, and degraded rubber seals or hydraulic lines that do not manifest during a basic static examination. A physical inspection must prioritize fuel system integrity, including checking the fuel tank internally for rust and ensuring the carburettor is free of stale petrol residue. The buyer should thoroughly inspect the tyres for age-related perusing or sidewall cracking, regardless of remaining tread depth, alongside examining the final drive belt, chain, suspension seals, and wheel bearings for stiffness or corrosion resulting from long-term static storage. Fresh fluids, including engine oil, primary chaincase lubricant, and brake fluid, are essential before returning this machine to regular service.
