1970 Volkswagen 1.6L Petrol · FGH 49J

The Volkswagen presents a currently roadworthy status following its most recent MOT pass on 23 December 2021 at 9,811 miles, with the maintenance trend appearing stable given the absence of recorded defects. The prior failure on 16 December 2021 at the identical mileage of 9,811 miles listed no defects, indicating an administrative or presentation issue at the testing station rather than a mechanical fault. No worsening or recurring mechanical pattern is evident across the supplied record. The odometer shows 9,811 miles against a 1970 build date, equating to roughly 175 miles per year and confirming exceptionally light use for a 56-year-old vehicle. Both MOT entries from December 2021 share the same mileage, so no accumulation occurred in that seven-day window between failure and pass. The sparse history offers little longitudinal data, though the static low mileage suggests long periods of storage rather than active wear on drivetrain or consumables. A buyer should physically verify structural integrity and corrosion on chassis and outriggers, as a half-century-old vehicle stored for long spells risks hidden rust despite clean test results. The tester recorded no advisories on suspension bushes, brake discs, or exhaust emissions, yet age alone demands hands-on checks of perishable rubbers and binding calipers. Given the unexplained fail-with-no-defects entry, confirm with the seller whether the initial 16 December 2021 visit involved a documentation error or withheld minor fault. Inspect tyres and wiper blades for perishing from inactivity, and commission a pre-purchase inspection before relying on the bare MOT pass.
