2004 Alpina B3 S 3.3L Petrol · FH04 HDF

The most recent MOT test on 18 March 2026 resulted in a pass with no recorded defects, indicating that the vehicle is currently meeting all essential safety and environmental standards. Looking at the broader maintenance trend, the vehicle demonstrates an exceptionally stable history. Aside from a single advisory in 2024 regarding a nail in the offside rear tyre, the MOT record has been consistently clean for several years. This suggests a high standard of preventative maintenance and a vehicle that has been well-cared for by its previous keepers. The recorded mileage of 65,003 miles is notably low for a 22-year-old vehicle, representing an average annual usage of approximately 2,955 miles. While this low mileage implies reduced mechanical wear on the engine, transmission, and drivetrain components, it also indicates that the vehicle has likely spent significant periods stationary. For a high-performance Alpina, this pattern of infrequent use can sometimes lead to different types of deterioration compared to a high-mileage vehicle, specifically regarding the chemical degradation of fluids and the physical perishing of rubber-based components. Given the low usage profile, a prospective buyer should focus their inspection on age-related degradation rather than component wear. Closely examine the tyres for signs of sidewall cracking or perishing, as rubber compounds can harden and lose grip over time even if the tread depth remains high. Check the brake discs for excessive corrosion or pitting, and ensure the calipers are not binding, which can occur when a vehicle sits for long periods. During the test drive, listen carefully for any suspension clunks or knocks that might indicate perished bushes or failing coil springs, which can degrade due to age and environmental exposure rather than mileage. It is also vital to verify the service history to ensure that time-based maintenance has been strictly followed. Because fluids such as engine oil, coolant, and brake fluid degrade chemically over time, they must be replaced according to the calendar rather than just mileage intervals. Inspect the vehicle for any signs of fluid leaks from gaskets or seals that may have dried out or shrunk due to inactivity. Finally, confirm that the service book contains regular stamps to validate that the vehicle has received the necessary attention to maintain its structural and mechanical integrity despite its infrequent road use.
