The vehicle’s most recent MOT test on 2025-06-13 resulted in a failure, though no defects were recorded—an anomaly in itself, as failures typically list specific issues. This suggests either an administrative error or a test where no major faults were detected, though the lack of defects is unusual for a vehicle of this age and mileage. The preceding three tests, all passed without failings, indicate a stable maintenance record up to the 2024-05-21 test at 84,466 miles. However, the failure in 2025—just 16,018 miles later—raises questions about whether the vehicle was driven to the test in a condition that would have passed, or if critical components were overlooked. The absence of advisories or recurring faults in the history implies no obvious pattern of neglect, but the sudden failure warrants scrutiny of components that might degrade rapidly at this mileage. The recorded mileage of 100,484 miles over 23 years suggests unusually light use, averaging just 4,369 miles annually. This could indicate the vehicle was stored for extended periods, which may have contributed to slower wear on mechanical parts but also risks corrosion from prolonged exposure. The gaps between tests—particularly the 13-month interval between the 2022 and 2023 tests—align with standard MOT frequency, but the low mileage makes it unusual for such a high-mileage vehicle to have such consistent passing results without any advisories. The lack of rapid mileage accumulation also means fewer opportunities for wear-and-tear issues to manifest, though it does not preclude hidden problems from long-term neglect. Given the absence of recorded defects or advisories in the MOT history, a buyer should prioritise an independent inspection of high-wear components that often fail without warning at this mileage. Focus on the suspension system—particularly the coil springs, bushes, and shock absorbers—for signs of deterioration or corrosion, as these degrade gradually and may not always trigger MOT failings until they become severe. The braking system, including rear calipers, brake discs, and hydraulic lines, should be checked for binding or excessive wear, especially if the vehicle was driven to the 2025 test without prior issues. Structural integrity, particularly around the wheel arches, sills, and subframe, should be examined for corrosion, as prolonged storage can accelerate rust formation. Finally, verify the condition of the exhaust system, catalytic converter, and emissions controls, as these components can develop leaks or fail silently over time.
