2012 Toyota Avensis 2.0L Diesel · FL12 OGM

The 2012 Toyota Avensis presents a stable roadworthiness status regarding its recent test outcomes, passing its most recent MOT on 30 April 2025 at 90,124 miles with zero defects recorded. The maintenance trend appears consistent on paper, as the previous tests in March 2023 and March 2024 also passed without any advisories or failures. Mechanical reliability cannot be fully verified through this documentation alone. A glaring mileage discrepancy severely undermines the reliability of this vehicle's history. On 12 March 2022, the odometer read 111,475 miles, yet by 7 March 2023, the recorded mileage dropped to 74,616 miles. This represents a physically impossible decrease of 36,859 miles in a single year. Such a drastic rollback strongly indicates a tampered odometer or a replaced speedometer unit without proper documentation. The current reading of 90,124 miles is therefore highly suspect, making it impossible to verify the true mechanical wear on the drivetrain, suspension, and braking components. Given the mileage anomaly, a prospective buyer must treat the car as having an unknown true mileage. An in-person inspection must focus heavily on physical wear indicators that contradict the displayed 90,124 miles. Examine the condition of the driver's seat bolsters, steering wheel glossing, and pedal rubbers for signs of high-mileage wear. Mechanically, pay close attention to the suspension bushes, coil springs, and shock absorber damping, as a car genuinely covering 111,000 miles or more will exhibit noticeable play or bottoming out. Inspect the brake discs and calipers for lipping and binding, and check the exhaust system for corrosion or blowing joints, which are typical failure points on higher-mileage vehicles. Structural rust around the sills, subframes, and suspension mounting points requires thorough scrutiny, as the true age and mileage of the vehicle dictate the severity of corrosion rather than the current odometer reading.
