2005 Toyota Yaris 1.3L Petrol · FL55 OKG

The current roadworthiness status of this 2005 Toyota Yaris is uncertain following anomalous results in its most recent tests. On 8 September 2025 at 51,386 miles, the vehicle failed the MOT, yet the DVSA record lists no defects. This exact scenario played out five days earlier on 3 September 2025 at 51,375 miles, where another failure was registered without any recorded faults. A failure without defects typically indicates a procedural issue, such as an inability to complete the emissions test due to a flat battery or insufficient fuel, rather than a sudden mechanical breakdown. Prior to these twin anomalies, the maintenance trend was entirely stable, passing cleanly in 2022, 2023, and 2024 with zero advisories. As of today, 8 July 2026, the vehicle has been without a valid MOT for ten months. The mileage accumulation reflects extremely light usage. Between 24 August 2022 at 47,161 miles and 2 September 2024 at 50,482 miles, the Yaris covered just 3,321 miles over two years. The annual increment dropped further to 904 miles in the year leading up to the September 2025 test. Such low mileage suggests short, local journeys or prolonged periods of inactivity. While this minimizes wear on consumables like brake discs and tyres, extended sitting poses its own risks, including seized callipers, perished rubber suspension bushes, and degraded brake fluid. A buyer must clarify why the Yaris failed twice in September 2025 with no defects listed. Request proof of a subsequent pass or a detailed invoice explaining the administrative failure. Without this, the car sits in a legal and mechanical grey area. During a physical inspection, pay close attention to the condition of the tyres, as low-mileage vehicles of this age frequently suffer from sidewall cracking and flat spots from standing still. Check the brake discs for surface corrosion and ensure the calipers are not binding, a common issue when cars sit unused. Inspect the suspension bushes for perishing and verify the exhaust system for corrosion, as short-trip driving accelerates internal rust from condensation. Confirm the brake fluid has been recently changed, as moisture absorption over the last ten months will have lowered its boiling point.
