The most recent DVSA MOT, dated 20 June 2022, was recorded as a full pass with no advisory or failure items noted. The earlier MOT on 18 February 2012 also passed without comment, indicating that, at the times it was tested, the motorcycle presented no detectable safety or emissions deficiencies. With only two recorded examinations ten years apart, the limited data does not reveal any trend of deterioration; however, the absence of recorded defects on both occasions suggests that the bike has been maintained at a level sufficient to meet the statutory standards when it was presented for testing. At twenty years old the recorded mileage of 3 507 miles works out to an average of roughly 175 miles per annum, which is exceptionally low for a road‑legal two‑stroke moped. Such sparse usage often points to prolonged periods of storage or very light, occasional riding. Low cumulative mileage reduces wear on wear‑items such as the clutch plates, gearbox gears and brake linings, but it also raises the likelihood that components have suffered from age‑related degradation rather than mechanical fatigue. The long intervals between recorded MOTs also imply that the bike may have been off‑road, stored, or otherwise not required to undergo annual testing, which can lead to issues such as fuel staleness, battery sulphation and rubber hardening. For a prospective buyer the primary focus should be on time‑based deterioration. Inspect the tyre sidewalls and tread for cracking, dry rot or loss of pliability, as rubber can perish even when little mileage is accrued. Examine the 12 V battery for signs of sulphation, swollen cases or a low resting voltage; a battery that has sat idle for years often needs replacement or at least a thorough charge and load test. The fuel system should be drained and flushed, as old petrol can leave varnish deposits in the carburettor jets, fuel lines and tank, leading to poor throttle response or hard starting. Check the spark plug for fouling or excessive wear, and verify that the air filter is clean and free of moisture, since a clogged filter will affect the two‑stroke engine’s performance. During a test ride listen for any irregularities in the engine’s idle and acceleration – a misfire, hesitation or uneven firing can indicate carburettor or ignition issues. Feel the rear suspension for excessive play or leaking oil from the shock absorber, and verify that the front fork seals are intact. Operate the brakes fully; the small disc or drum should engage without sponginess, and there should be no judder or grinding that would suggest worn pads or corroded discs. Finally, confirm that all lighting, indicators and the horn function correctly, and that the frame shows no hidden corrosion at welds or mounting points, as prolonged exposure to the elements can compromise structural integrity even on a low‑mileage machine.
