2024 Toyota Corolla Excel HEV CVT 1.8L Hybrid electric (clean) · FN74 WDV

The 2024 Toyota Corolla Excel HEV CVT has achieved a clean pass in its most recent DVSA MOT test conducted on 2026-04-14, with no recorded defects or advisories. Given the absence of prior MOT failures or recurring issues in the vehicle’s history, the maintenance trend is stable and consistent with a well-maintained example of its class. This suggests that the owner has adhered to routine servicing schedules, which is particularly important for a hybrid-electric vehicle like this model, where the CVT transmission and hybrid components require careful attention to prevent premature wear or electrical system degradation. The lack of advisories also implies that no critical systems—such as the exhaust emissions control, structural integrity, or electrical wiring—have exhibited significant failure modes that would warrant immediate rectification. The recorded mileage of 17,797 miles is appropriate for a vehicle of this age, representing an annual usage rate of approximately 8,898 miles, which is within the expected range for a Corolla Excel HEV in typical UK conditions. This level of mileage does not indicate excessive wear beyond what is normal for its age, though it does suggest the vehicle has been in active service rather than left stationary for prolonged periods. However, if the vehicle has experienced significant gaps between mileage increments—such as a period of inactivity—this could have contributed to potential issues like corrosion from standing, particularly in the brake systems, suspension components, or undercarriage. For example, standing brake discs may develop corrosion or binding if moisture accumulates, leading to reduced braking performance or uneven wear patterns if not addressed. Similarly, suspension bushes or coil springs could show signs of stiffness or play if not serviced regularly during periods of disuse. Given the clean MOT record and the vehicle’s age and mileage, the prospective buyer should conduct a thorough physical inspection to identify any age-related wear or potential issues that may not have surfaced in the MOT test. First and foremost, examine the tyres for signs of sidewall perishing or cracking, which can occur over time even with low mileage, particularly in colder UK climates. Check the tread depth uniformly across all tyres and look for any areas of uneven wear, which could indicate misalignment, suspension issues, or steering problems. Next, inspect the battery and associated electrical systems, as the hybrid drivetrain relies heavily on the 12V battery for auxiliary functions and regenerative braking efficiency. A weak or failing battery may lead to electrical gremlins, such as intermittent lighting or infotainment system failures, and should be tested for voltage output and overall health. For fluid systems, the buyer should verify the condition of the engine oil, transmission fluid, and brake fluid, as these can degrade over time due to exposure to the elements, even if the vehicle is not driven daily. Check the oil level and colour—dark or gritty oil suggests contamination or excessive wear—and ensure it meets the manufacturer’s specifications for the HEV system. The brake fluid should be clear and free of moisture contamination, which can lead to corrosion in the brake master cylinder or calipers. Additionally, the coolant system should be inspected for leaks or signs of overheating, as hybrid systems can generate more heat than conventional vehicles. Finally, a visual and functional check of the exhaust system for leaks, rust, or structural integrity is prudent, especially given the vehicle’s age. Listen for unusual noises during the test drive, such as clunking from suspension components, whining from the CVT, or grinding from the brakes, as these can indicate developing issues that warrant prompt attention. If the vehicle has been driven regularly, the wear on consumables like brake pads, suspension components, and drivetrain seals should be within expected limits, but a thorough inspection will confirm this.
