2011 Volkswagen Golf 1.6L Diesel · FR11 WXW

The vehicle maintains a stable roadworthiness status, having passed its last three annual MOT tests without a failure. The most recent test in July 2024 at 109,149 miles showed no mechanical defects, though the tester noted emissions were too low to register and a child seat prevented a full seat belt inspection. Since this last test occurred over two years ago, the vehicle is currently overdue for its MOT, which necessitates an immediate safety check before any purchase. The mileage pattern is remarkably consistent for a 15-year-old vehicle, averaging approximately 7,300 miles per year. Data shows a steady progression of use, moving from 24,005 miles in 2014 to 109,149 miles in 2024. This consistent usage suggests regular operation rather than long periods of stationary storage, which often benefits rubber components and seals. However, the two-year gap in MOT MOT indicates the car has either sat for an extended period or the owner has neglected statutory compliance. A buyer should focus their inspection on the front suspension, as the history shows recurring issues here. In 2021 at 89,652 miles, the tester flagged a misting nearside front shock absorber and severely deteriorated dust covers on both front upper anti-roll bar linkages. While these were likely addressed, the repeated failure of ball joint dust covers in previous years suggests wear in the front steering assembly. The record also shows a history of tyre wear and cracking between 2016, 2017, and 2021, requiring a thorough check of the current sidewalls and tread depth. The braking system requires attention following the report of thin front brake pads during the 2016 test. Because the record frequently mentions engine covers and under-trays obscuring underside components, a physical under-inspection is vital to check for structural corrosion or fluid leaks that the tester may have missed. Ensure the nearside rear seat belt is fully functional, as it was left uninspected during the most recent inspection.
