2006 Volkswagen Polo 1.2L Petrol · GEZ 7055

A recurring theme of front‑suspension wear, deteriorating brake hoses and repeated exhaust‑emissions failures defines this Polo’s MOT history. The most recent test on 28 February 2026 was passed, yet it recorded worn front lower‑arm pins/bushes, corroded front coil springs and a rear‑brake imbalance that is just within limits. Earlier in the series, the vehicle failed twice for excessive carbon‑monoxide output (2024‑11‑09 and 2023‑12‑02) and once for a severely deteriorated front brake hose (2024‑11‑09), while the 2022‑10‑26 failure added a non‑functional horn repeater and a rear‑tyre cut to the list of major defects. The pattern shows that emissions and front‑brake‑line issues have been persistent, with recent advisories indicating that the underlying problems have not yet been fully rectified. At 157,130 mi the car averages roughly 7,800 mi per year, a mileage rate that sits comfortably within the normal range for a twenty‑year‑old hatchback. The MOT chronology from late‑2022 onward is uninterrupted, suggesting the vehicle has been regularly tested and any emergent faults have been recorded promptly. There are no obvious periods of prolonged inactivity that would raise concerns about component ageing beyond normal wear, and the mileage progression does not indicate any sudden spikes that would imply aggressive short‑term use. Prospective buyers should give particular attention to the front lower‑suspension arms and associated bushings; listen for clunking or knocking when traversing bumps, and feel for any looseness in the steering column that could signal excessive play. The corroded coil springs may have lost some elasticity, so a test‑drive should include a check for uneven ride height or a sagging rear end under load. The rear‑brake imbalance noted in the latest advisory warrants a thorough inspection of the rear calipers and pads for uneven wear, and the brakes should be tested for any pull to one side or a pulsating pedal under firm application. The brake‑line condition demands visual inspection of both front hoses for signs of cracking, swelling or fluid leakage, and the driver should monitor for a soft or spongy brake pedal that could indicate internal hose deterioration. The repeated exhaust‑CO failures point to a likely restriction or fault in the exhaust system or engine management; a noticeable black‑smoke plume, rough idle or a strong exhaust smell at idle would be warning signs. The off‑side anti‑roll‑bar dust‑cover failure and the near‑side ball‑joint play should be checked for excessive movement or rattles when cornering. Finally, the oil‑leak advisory and the cut rear tyre recorded in 2022 suggest that a close visual check for any fresh oil stains around the engine bay and a thorough tyre inspection for tread depth and sidewall integrity are essential before committing to purchase.
