2001 Volkswagen Transporter 1.9L Diesel · GV51 AEE

The vehicle maintains a roadworthy status, though the maintenance history reveals a persistent trend of surface corrosion and component degradation. In the most recent test in May 2024 at 103,605 miles, the vehicle passed with advisories regarding pitted and scored brake discs and surface corrosion. While the immediate mechanical failures were avoided, the recurring nature of these issues across multiple years suggests a reactive maintenance approach where faults are addressed only upon inspection rather than through preventative replacement. The mileage profile is country low for a vehicle twenty-five years old, averaging approximately 4,144 miles per year. The data shows very little movement between tests; for instance, the vehicle covered only 198 miles between January 2023 and May 2024, and 229 miles between January 2022 and January 2023. While low mileage typically implies less engine and drivetrain wear, it often indicates the vehicle sits stationary for long periods, which correlates with the high levels of surface rust noted on metalwork and the degradation of rubber components. A buyer must conduct a thorough physical inspection of the rear braking and suspension assemblies. The record shows a consistent failure from 2019 through 2023 regarding corroded rear brake pipes and suspension arms on both sides. Although these were noted as not seriously weakened, the presence of grease on corroded pipes is a concern as it masks further decay that could lead to fluid leaks. The front exhaust has also shown a persistent leak and corrosion hole near the hanger since 2020, indicating the exhaust system is nearing the end of its functional life.
