Carwow's Touran reliability page counts ten recalls since the model launched and says most occurred in the earlier years of production, with none after 2020 for the later car. RAC's 2003-2010 used guide independently records a recall to fix a fault with the tyre-pressure-monitoring system on those first-era cars. Because VW stopped selling the Touran in the UK, an outstanding campaign will not be chased up for you, so a used buyer has to reconcile the build date against the recall list before committing.

RAC's Touran used guide found the only consistent pattern in owner complaints was electrical, mainly affecting older cars, and advises thoroughly testing all such controls before buying. Auto Express's (2011-2015) review sets that in context: it says the Touran uses tried-and-tested Golf running gear with most teething troubles ironed out, but reports that owners in its Driver Power survey admired the Touran's practicality and little else, with Volkswagen finishing 19th of 33 manufacturers and its dealers criticised for high prices. Expect switch, socket and module gremlins rather than engine failures, and expect dealer labour to cost more than the repair is worth.
