1990 Yamaha FZR1000 1.0L Petrol · H452 DNJ

The Yamaha FZR1000 presents a stable roadworthiness profile based on the sole available MOT record. The March 2024 test at 32,771 miles passed without any defects, advisories, or warnings—an unusually clean outcome for a 28-year-old motorcycle with such low annual mileage. The absence of even minor issues suggests either meticulous private maintenance or a vehicle that has been stored rather than actively ridden. Without further historical data, it’s impossible to confirm long-term trends, but the current snapshot indicates no immediate mechanical or structural red flags. The recorded mileage of 32,771 miles over nearly three decades—averaging just 1,170 miles per year—is exceptionally low for a motorcycle of this age. Such minimal usage typically reduces wear on critical components like suspension bushes, brake pads, and chain drive, but it also raises questions about potential neglect in other areas. Long periods of inactivity can lead to issues such as seized bearings, degraded rubber seals, or even corrosion in less-accessible areas, particularly if the bike was stored in damp conditions. The lack of MOT history prior to 2024 means there’s no baseline to assess whether problems have been addressed or allowed to worsen over time. For a prospective buyer, the primary focus should be on components that degrade slowly but critically over years of disuse. Inspect the suspension for degraded bushes or stiff coil springs, as these can harden when left unused. Check the brake system for binding calipers, uneven pad wear, or corrosion on the discs—common when a bike sits idle. The chain and sprocket should be examined for rust or stiffness, and the final drive (if applicable) for any signs of dryness or seizing. Structural integrity is less of a concern on this model, but look for any signs of frame corrosion, particularly around bolt points or welds, which can occur even with minimal mileage if moisture was present. Given the sparse MOT record, a pre-purchase inspection by a specialist Yamaha mechanic is strongly advised. The clean MOT result is promising, but the bike’s age and low mileage history demand thorough scrutiny of hidden wear points that may not have been tested in the DVSA’s basic compliance check.
