2002 Eunos Roadster 1.6L Petrol · H987 HOD

The vehicle’s most recent MOT test on 2023-10-25 confirmed it as roadworthy, though the immediate preceding test on 2023-10-13—just twelve days earlier—was a failure without recorded defects. This anomaly suggests either a procedural oversight in the testing process or a vehicle that passed a second attempt under the same mileage, 120,390. No further MOTs are recorded since October 2023, meaning the vehicle has not undergone a statutory inspection for nearly three years. While the absence of defects in the final pass indicates no major mechanical failures were detected at that point, the lack of subsequent testing raises concerns about whether critical components—such as suspension bushes, coil springs, or binding calipers—have since deteriorated. The testers did not flag any advisories, but the extended gap between tests means wear on high-mileage items like brake discs, exhaust systems, or corrosion-prone areas could now be significant. The recorded mileage of 120,390 miles over approximately 24 years equates to an average of roughly 5,000 miles annually, which is unusually low for a vehicle of this age. Such low mileage could imply prolonged periods of inactivity, potentially accelerating issues like dry-rotted suspension components, seized joints, or degraded fluids. The identical mileage on both the failed and passed tests in October 2023 suggests no significant mileage was accumulated between them, reinforcing the possibility of the vehicle being stationary for extended periods. While low mileage can theoretically reduce wear, it also increases the risk of component degradation due to lack of use, particularly in critical areas like the drivetrain or electrical systems. Given the lack of MOT activity since October 2023, a buyer should prioritise an immediate, thorough inspection of suspension integrity, focusing on worn or cracked bushes, corroded coil springs, and binding calipers—common failures in older roadsters. The brakes, though not explicitly failed, should be scrutinised for uneven wear, glazed linings, or warped discs, especially if the vehicle has been stationary. Corrosion checks are essential, particularly around wheel arches, subframes, and exhaust systems, as prolonged inactivity can accelerate rust. Additionally, verify fluid levels and condition, including brake fluid (for moisture contamination), engine oil (for dilution or sludge), and coolant (for overheating risks). The absence of advisories in the last test does not guarantee these areas are unaffected, and a pre-purchase inspection is critical to confirm the vehicle’s current state.
