2008 Volkswagen Caddy 1.9L Diesel · HD08 KZG

This Volkswagen Caddy has maintained a consistent MOT pass record over the past four tests, with the most recent inspection on 16 May 2025 at 48,933 miles confirming no defects. The absence of advisories or failings across all tests—including the 2023 and 2022 examinations—indicates no recurring mechanical or structural issues were detected by the tester. While this suggests the vehicle has been kept in a stable condition for its age, the lack of any recorded advisories also means there is no historical evidence of proactive maintenance beyond the minimum legal requirements. Buyers should treat this as a baseline of compliance rather than comprehensive care. The recorded mileage of 48,933 miles over 18 years—approximately 2,718 miles annually—is unusually low for a vehicle of this age, particularly given the Caddy’s commercial use profile. The gap between tests varies, with the longest interval of 12 months between the 2023 (27 July) and 2024 (21 May) tests, during which only 949 miles were logged. This pattern implies either minimal operational use or extended periods of storage, both of which could accelerate wear on fluids, seals, and suspension components. The consistency of mileage increments (around 1,800–2,000 miles per year) suggests no sudden spikes in usage, but the overall low total raises questions about whether critical components like brakes, tyres, or battery health have been subject to regular checks beyond the MOT’s scope. Given the clean MOT history, the primary focus for an in-person inspection should centre on consumable items and high-wear areas that are not routinely tested. The brakes—particularly the rear calipers and discs—should be examined for uneven wear or binding, as the MOT does not always catch subtle issues like warped rotors or seized components. Suspension bushes and coil springs, though not flagged in past tests, may show signs of fatigue given the vehicle’s age, so check for excessive play in wheel alignment or uneven tyre wear patterns. Tyre tread depth and condition are critical; failing twice on tread in a previous life (if any) would indicate basic upkeep was neglected, so verify the current tread remains above the legal limit and that there is no uneven wear suggesting alignment or suspension issues. Finally, inspect the underbody for corrosion, especially around the sills, wheel arches, and exhaust system, as prolonged storage can accelerate rust development in critical structural areas.
