2003 Peugeot 307 LX HDI 1.4L Heavy oil · HHZ 1015

A solitary MOT record from November 2021 shows a clean pass with no defects recorded, meaning that at that test the vehicle met the statutory safety and emissions criteria. With only this single entry, the recent snapshot is positive, but the lack of earlier MOT data prevents a full view of any historic or recurring issues that may have been addressed or may still be latent. The odometer reads 87,332 mi after 23 years, averaging roughly 3,800 mi per year—a mileage figure that is low for a vehicle of this age. Such modest annual use often points to periods of light duty or extended storage, which can be gentle on wear items like brakes, clutch and tyre tread, yet can also allow rubber components, seals and corrosion‑prone metal to age in place. The relatively low total mileage does not guarantee the condition of age‑sensitive parts, so the buyer should treat the vehicle as having been lightly used but potentially subject to the typical degradation that comes with two‑decades of existence. Given the absence of recorded failures, the inspection focus should shift to components that commonly deteriorate with age. Examine the suspension bushings, ball joints and shock absorbers for any clunking, creaking or uneven response when traversing bumps; listen for metallic knocks that may indicate worn mounting points. Test the steering for play or a noticeable pull to one side, which could reveal worn tie‑rod ends or subframe rust. Inspect the brake system for soft pedal feel, pulsation or excessive pedal travel, and look around the calipers and discs for surface rust or seized pistons that might not have been captured in the lone MOT. A thorough visual and functional check of the engine bay is advisable: verify that all coolant, oil and fuel lines are free of cracks or leaks, and that the serpentine belt shows no fraying. Start the engine and listen for abnormal noises such as ticking from the valve train or whining from the turbocharger, and watch for excessive smoke from the exhaust that could hint at oil or fuel dilution. Finally, confirm that the tyres have sufficient tread depth and are free of sidewall cracks, and that the battery terminals are clean, as prolonged storage can lead to corrosion even when the MOT pass did not flag it. These targeted checks will give a realistic picture of the car’s current roadworthiness beyond the limited MOT history.
