2004 Vauxhall Astra 1.6L Petrol · J1 LCH

The Vauxhall Astra presents a stable roadworthiness picture based on its most recent test. On 25 September 2023 at 74,801 miles the vehicle passed with no defects recorded, following a same-day failure that listed no defects, an administrative anomaly rather than a mechanical fault. Prior tests in August 2022 at 73,713 miles and August 2021 at 73,363 miles also passed cleanly. The maintenance trend is steady with no worsening advisories or recurring failures across the four-year record. Mileage sits at 74,801 against a 2004 build, averaging roughly 3,400 miles per year. The car added only 1,088 miles between the August 2021 and August 2022 tests, then just 1,350 miles to September 2023. Such low annual use over 22 years suggests extended standing periods. Sparse test data shows no rapid accumulation or neglect-driven gaps, though limited annual movement raises the prospect of perished rubber components and surface corrosion from inactivity rather than wear. A buyer should physically inspect suspension bushes, coil springs, and subframe mounts for cracking or rust, as low-mileage lay-ups accelerate rubber degradation and trapped moisture corrosion more than high-use motoring. Brake discs and calipers warrant checks for pitting and binding after prolonged storage. The clean MOT history offers no flagged exhaust emissions or structural integrity concerns, but a pre-purchase examination beneath the sills and wheel arches remains prudent given the vehicle's age.
