1991 Volkswagen Golf 1.8L Petrol · J530 DAB

The vehicle currently holds a valid MOT certificate issued on 31 October 2025, which remains in effect until 30 October 2026. The maintenance trend appears stable, as the most recent inspection resulted in a clean pass following a brief administrative failure just eleven days prior. The absence of recorded advisories across the 2022 and 2025 tests suggests that the vehicle has been maintained to a functional standard, though the limited frequency of testing over the last four years warrants a cautious approach to mechanical assessment. With a total of 107,145 miles accumulated over 35 years, the annual average of approximately 3,061 miles confirms light usage. The significant three-year gap between the April 2022 pass and the October 2025 test indicates the car likely spent extended periods in storage. While low mileage often preserves drivetrain components, long-term inactivity frequently leads to the degradation of rubber seals, fuel system varnish, and the onset of oxidation in brake lines or fuel pipes that may not be immediately apparent during a standard MOT inspection. Prospective buyers should prioritise a thorough inspection of the vehicle underside for structural corrosion, as 1990s Volkswagen models are prone to rust in the sills, floor pans, and wheel arches after decades of exposure. Check the condition of all flexible brake hoses and suspension bushes, as these components often perish during long periods of disuse. Verify that the engine reaches operating temperature without fluctuations and inspect the cooling system for signs of leaking coolant or brittle hoses. Given the age of the vehicle, confirm the timing belt replacement history, as failure to address this critical maintenance item poses a significant risk to the engine regardless of the low mileage recorded on the odometer.
