2009 Jeep G-Cherokee Overland CRD A 3.0L Diesel · J8 YJB

The Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland CRD presents a clean MOT history, with the most recent test on 16 October 2025 at 73,246 miles showing no defects—an outcome consistent with all prior examinations since 2021 . This stability suggests the vehicle has been well maintained within the MOT testing window, with no recurring advisories or failures to indicate deteriorating mechanical integrity. The absence of defects across five consecutive tests, including the latest, implies that major components—such as brakes, suspension, steering, and structural elements—have been serviced or replaced proactively. However, the lack of recorded advisories does not preclude the need for a thorough pre-purchase inspection, as some wear items (e.g., tyres, wiper blades, fluids) fall outside MOT scrutiny. The mileage pattern reveals a low annual average of around 4,309 miles , which is atypical for a vehicle of this age. Between September 2021 (58,060 miles) and October 2024 (106,143 miles) , the odometer increased by 48,083 miles over three years , suggesting either infrequent use or extended periods of inactivity. The subsequent drop to 73,246 miles by October 2025 —a reduction of 32,897 miles in just nine months —is highly unusual and raises immediate concerns. Such a discrepancy could indicate odometer tampering, a clerical error, or a deliberate reset, none of which align with standard vehicle usage. Buyers should verify the mileage independently, as this inconsistency undermines the reliability of the recorded service history. Given the clean MOT record, priority should be placed on inspecting consumable and high-wear components that are not routinely tested. The braking system , including pad thickness, disc condition, and caliper operation, should be checked for uneven wear or corrosion, particularly if the vehicle has spent extended periods stationary. Suspension components —such as coil springs, bushings, and ball joints—may show fatigue despite passing MOTs, especially if the car has been driven on uneven surfaces or left unsupported for long periods. Exhaust emissions and fluid levels (brake, coolant, differential) should also be verified, as these are not part of the MOT but critical to long-term reliability. Finally, a structural integrity check for corrosion, particularly in wheel arches, sills, and underbody panels, is essential, given the vehicle’s age and the potential for hidden rust in low-mileage scenarios.
