2002 Mercedes Atego 6.0L Diesel · JLZ 6153

The vehicle remains roadworthy based on its most recent 2024-04-11 MOT pass at 302,420 miles, though the maintenance trend is unclear due to limited data. The prior 2024-03-27 test failed without recorded defects, suggesting either a procedural error or a minor issue resolved before the subsequent pass. No structural, braking, or emissions failures were noted in the latest assessment, but the absence of defect details in both tests restricts a comprehensive evaluation of underlying mechanical health. The vehicle’s mileage of 302,420 miles at 24 years old equates to approximately 12,601 miles annually, significantly above average for its age. The MOT history shows a 14-day gap between tests, with only a 25-mile mileage increase, raising questions about the validity of the failed test. This sparse record lacks evidence of recurring issues or gradual deterioration, but the high annual mileage implies accelerated wear on components such as suspension bushes, brake discs, and drivetrain elements. Without further data, it is difficult to determine if maintenance practices have been consistent or neglectful. A buyer should prioritize an in-person inspection of the suspension system for worn coil springs or binding calipers, given the high mileage. Corrosion risks, particularly in the exhaust system or underbody, warrant scrutiny due to the vehicle’s age. While the latest MOT confirmed no critical failures, the lack of detailed defect reports in both tests means hidden issues—such as minor brake pad wear or exhaust leaks—could persist. A thorough mechanical check, including a brake test and chassis corrosion survey, is advisable to confirm the vehicle’s ongoing reliability.
