2008 Vauxhall Astra 1.6L Petrol · KA57 WPX

The Astra passed its most recent MOT in November 2022 at 183,367 miles, but the certificate expired over thirty months ago, leaving the current roadworthiness unverified. The maintenance trend shows a clear worsening trajectory: recurring coil spring fractures, progressive brake wear, and persistent tyre neglect point to reactive rather than preventative upkeep. Advisories on the last test flagged a corroded offside front coil spring, a misting offside rear shock absorber, a perishing nearside rear tyre, and an oil leak, all of which will have deteriorated further during the extended layoff. Mileage accumulation averaged a steady 10,000 to 11,000 miles annually between 2013 and 2019, rising from 87,508 to 157,297 miles. Usage then dropped sharply to roughly 5,300 miles in the 2019‑2020 year and 6,500 miles in 2020‑2021, before jumping to 14,200 miles in the final recorded year to November 2022. That late surge, combined with the three‑year test gap, suggests a change in ownership or duty cycle that a buyer should verify against service invoices. A pre‑purchase inspection must focus on the suspension architecture. Both rear coil springs fractured in September 2018, the nearside front snapped in September 2020, and the offside front now shows significant corrosion; the lower suspension arm bushes exhibited excessive play as far back as 2016. Brake components have required attention at nearly every test: rear pads below 1.5 mm and scored discs in 2016, front discs pitted and pads thin in 2021. Tyre management has been consistently poor, with tread depth advisories in 2013, 2017, 2018, 2020 and 2022, plus sidewall cracking on the rear axle. The oil leak noted in 2022, the deteriorated registration plate, and the damaged fog lamp glass complete a picture of deferred cosmetic and mechanical maintenance.
