2008 Vauxhall Astra 2.0L Diesel · KB57 ABN

The most recent MOT test on 3 March 2025 resulted in a pass with no recorded defects. Reviewing the history back to 2021, the maintenance trend is exceptionally stable, characterized by a consistent string of clean passes. Although a failure was recorded on 26 February 2025, it was rectified within a week, and the absence of long-term recurring advisories suggests the vehicle has been kept in a roadworthy condition without chronic mechanical failings. At approximately 18 years of age with 80,326 miles, this Astra has been used sparingly, averaging roughly 4,463 miles per year. While low mileage generally implies reduced wear on the internal engine components and the drivetrain, such a low annual usage rate often indicates periods of prolonged standing. This usage profile shifts the mechanical concern from typical wear-and-tear to age-related degradation of non-metallic components. Given the clean MOT history and low mileage, the prospective buyer should prioritize a physical inspection of all rubber components. Specifically, examine the tyre sidewalls for fine cracking or perishing, as tyres can expire due to age even if the tread depth remains legal. Inspect the suspension bushes and coil springs for signs of drying or surface corrosion, and ensure the brake discs are not heavily pitted or prone to binding calipers, which is common in vehicles that spend significant time stationary. Attention must also be paid to calendar-based maintenance rather than mileage-based intervals. Verify the service records to ensure that engine oil, coolant, and brake fluid have been replaced according to time intervals, as these fluids degrade chemically regardless of distance travelled. Finally, test the health of the 12V battery and check for any signs of moisture ingress or perished window seals, which can occur when a vehicle is not driven frequently enough to maintain internal temperature and humidity levels.
