2005 Smart Roadster 0.7L Petrol · KW05 PXC

The vehicle maintains a roadworthy status, but the inspection history reveals a trend of accelerating structural and component degradation. While it passed its most recent test in November 2022 at 46,385 miles, the record shows a clear increase in corrosion-related advisories over time. The transition from a clean certificate in 2020 to multiple structural and mechanical defects in 2022 indicates that the vehicle is suffering significantly from environmental factors despite its low mechanical usage. The mileage profile is exceptionally low for a 21-year-old vehicle, averaging approximately 2,200 miles per year. Between October 2019 and November 2020, the car covered only 419 miles, a pattern that suggests the vehicle sits for long periods. This lack of use likely explains the perishing of rubber components and the persistent corrosion noted by the tester. The cracking on multiple tyres in both 2021 and 2022 are classic symptoms of age rather than mileage-related wear. A buyer must prioritise a thorough physical inspection of the rear sub-frame and MacPherson struts, as corrosion has appeared in these areas consistently since 2018. The tester specifically flagged the rear sub-frame as corroded in both 2021 and 2022, which is a critical structural point for this model. Furthermore, the rear brake pipes require close attention as their corrosion has been a recurring issue for four consecutive years, which could lead to sudden failure if not replaced. Mechanical attention also includes the steering rack inner joints and anti-roll bar components, which have shown signs of play in previous tests. The distorted offside front road wheel noted in 2022 suggests a previous impact that should be checked for tracking alignment and suspension integrity. Given that the last recorded test was three years ago in 2022, a fresh inspection is mandatory to ensure that the documented structural rust has not progressed to a point of requiring expensive repairs.
