2009 Volkswagen Tiguan 2.0L Diesel · KX09 YZT

The Volkswagen Tiguan’s most recent MOT test on 2024-04-11 resulted in a pass, though it is notable that this was immediately preceded by a failure on the same date—an anomaly that suggests either a clerical error or a last-minute correction rather than a genuine mechanical issue. The preceding tests in 2023 and 2022 also show no recorded defects, indicating a consistent pattern of compliance with basic MOT standards. However, the lack of any advisories or defects across these tests does not preclude underlying wear, particularly in high-mileage components like suspension bushes, coil springs, or brake calipers, which often fail silently before reaching MOT thresholds. The absence of emissions-related failures is reassuring, but the vehicle’s age (17 years) and mileage (124,208 miles) necessitate a thorough inspection of components that typically exceed MOT inspection intervals. The recorded mileage of 124,208 miles over 17 years equates to approximately 7,300 miles annually, a rate that aligns with typical usage for a vehicle of this age. There are no obvious gaps or spikes in mileage between tests, though the record only spans five years, leaving longer-term trends unclear. The consistent spacing between tests (around 12 months) suggests the vehicle has been driven regularly rather than left unused, which could imply more wear on consumables like tyres, brakes, and suspension. However, without pre-MOT service records, it is impossible to determine whether maintenance has been proactive or deferred until failure. Given the lack of MOT defects, a buyer should prioritise an independent inspection of suspension components—particularly the rear bushes and coil springs—given their tendency to degrade without immediate failure. Binding calipers or warped brake discs, while not yet MOT-fail conditions, are common in high-mileage Tiguan models and should be checked for uneven wear or excessive noise. The chassis and wheel arches should be scrutinised for corrosion, as this is a critical structural risk in vehicles of this age, even if not yet visible at MOT inspection. Finally, the exhaust system and catalytic converter warrant inspection for leaks or damage, as these are often overlooked until they affect emissions or structural integrity. The absence of advisories does not guarantee these areas are sound.
