1993 Mitsubishi Shogun 2.8L Diesel · L184 HAA

The most recent MOT test on record was a pass achieved on 22nd October 2021, which resulted in no recorded defects. Although a failure was noted earlier that same month, the subsequent pass indicates that the necessary repairs were completed to meet minimum standards at that time. However, it is critical to note that based on the provided data, the vehicle's MOT has expired, and you must confirm whether a valid test has been conducted since 2021 before proceeding with a purchase to ensure the vehicle is currently roadworthy and compliant with legal requirements. The vehicle has covered 187,006 miles over its 33-year lifespan, representing an average annual usage of approximately 5,667 miles. This is relatively low mileage for a vehicle of this age, which may suggest lighter mechanical wear on the engine and drivetrain. However, such low usage often implies the vehicle has spent extended periods stationary. For a large four-wheel-drive vehicle, this pattern of use can lead to specific issues such as fluid stagnation, seal shrinkage, and the degradation of rubber components that are not necessarily related to the total distance traveled. During your inspection, you should prioritize checking for age-related deterioration. Examine the tyres thoroughly for sidewall cracking or perishing, as older rubber loses its elasticity and grip even if the tread depth remains high. Inspect the braking system for signs of binding calipers or heavy corrosion on the brake discs, which are common symptoms of a vehicle that has been standing. On your test drive, listen for any knocks or clunks from the suspension, which may indicate that bushes or coil springs have perished or that the dampers have lost their effectiveness due to age. Additionally, you must verify the vehicle's maintenance through its service book to ensure that time-based fluid changes have been performed, as oil, coolant, and brake fluid can degrade chemically over time. Check the condition of the 12V battery and the electrical system, as infrequent use can lead to battery sulphation and charging issues. Finally, perform a close inspection of the chassis and structural components for signs of corrosion or rust, which is a vital consideration for a vehicle of this vintage to ensure its long-term structural integrity.
