1993 Vauxhall Calibra Auto 2.0L Petrol · L696 APK

The Vauxhall Calibra has demonstrated a consistent roadworthiness record over its most recent MOT cycles, with no defects or advisories recorded in the five tests spanning from July 2019 to August 2025. The most recent inspection, conducted on 16 August 2025 at 93,631 miles, confirms the vehicle remains within legal limits for all tested parameters. This pattern of clean passes suggests the car has been maintained at a basic level, though the absence of advisories does not preclude underlying issues that may not have been visibly apparent during testing—such as hidden corrosion, degraded suspension bushes, or progressive brake wear beyond the tester’s scope. Buyers should treat this record as a baseline rather than a guarantee of full mechanical integrity. The recorded mileage of 93,631 miles over 33 years equates to an average of approximately 2,837 miles annually, which is unusually low for a vehicle of this age. The gap between the 2019 and 2022 tests—where mileage only increased by 1,414 miles in three years—strongly implies prolonged periods of inactivity. Such low usage may have mitigated some wear, but it also raises concerns about fluid degradation (brakes, clutch, engine oil) and potential stagnation-related issues like seized suspension components or degraded rubber seals. The most recent MOT-to-date interval of 13 months (August 2025) aligns with the standard 12-month cycle, indicating no recent attempts to bypass testing. Given the lack of recorded defects, the primary focus for an in-person inspection should centre on components prone to silent failure in low-mileage, long-stored vehicles. Examine the suspension for dried or cracked rubber in bushes, coil springs, and track arms—common in cars left stationary for extended periods. Brake discs and calipers should be checked for uneven wear or binding, particularly if the vehicle has been moved infrequently, as moisture can accelerate corrosion. Structural integrity is critical; inspect the sills, wheel arches, and subframe for rust penetration, especially around welds and fastenings, where hidden corrosion could compromise safety. The engine bay should be scrutinised for oil leaks, degraded hoses, and battery corrosion, while the interior’s electrical systems—wipers, lights, and controls—may exhibit wear from disuse. While the MOT record offers reassurance, these areas demand thorough verification.
