2008 Honda VFR 800 A-8 0.8L Petrol · LC58 BRF

This Honda VFR 800 has maintained an exceptionally clean MOT history over the past four test cycles, with the most recent inspection on 13 August 2025 at 25,389 miles showing no advisories or defects. The trend is stable, with no recurring issues to suggest neglect or progressive mechanical degradation. Such consistency is rare for a vehicle of this age, particularly given the bike’s 18-year-old chassis and relatively low mileage. The absence of even minor advisories—such as tyre wear, fluid leaks, or suspension component wear—implies either meticulous maintenance by previous owners or, more likely, infrequent use that has spared the components from accelerated deterioration. The mileage pattern reinforces the impression of light usage, with just 1,410 miles per year over the past four years—a figure well below the national average for a motorcycle of this vintage. The recorded mileage has barely budged since 2022 (23,446 miles) , with only 943 miles added between July 2022 and August 2025 , suggesting prolonged storage or very occasional riding. This low mileage reduces wear on consumables like tyres, brakes, and chain, but it also raises questions about the condition of rubber components (e.g., seals, hoses) that can degrade even when stationary due to exposure to the elements. The lack of mileage accumulation may also mean the bike has spent extended periods without being started, which can lead to issues like seized bearings or degraded fuel system integrity. Given the MOT record’s sterility, a buyer should still conduct a thorough pre-purchase inspection, focusing on components that are prone to hidden deterioration in low-mileage, long-stored motorcycles. Pay particular attention to the rear suspension bushes and coil springs , as these can stiffen or corrode without regular movement. Check for binding in the rear brake calipers , a common issue in bikes left unused, and inspect the brake discs and pads for surface rust or uneven wear, even if the MOT passed. The chain and sprockets should be examined for dryness or stiffness, while the fuel system —including the tank, lines, and carburettor jets—may require flushing if the bike has sat unused for years. Finally, verify the structural integrity of the frame and subframe , particularly around welds and mounting points, as corrosion or stress cracks can develop without the mitigating effects of regular riding. While the MOT history presents a reassuring picture, the combination of low mileage and age demands vigilance. The bike’s clean record suggests it has been well cared for in terms of basic compliance, but hidden issues in less frequently tested areas—such as electrical systems, suspension geometry, or internal engine components—could emerge. A pre-purchase inspection by a qualified mechanic is strongly advised to confirm the vehicle’s true condition beyond the MOT’s narrow scope.
