2007 Honda Jazz 1.3L Petrol · LM07 CEU

The 2007 Honda Jazz presents a notably sparse DVSA testing record, with only two MOT results on file from the last decade of its life, the most recent being a pass on 18 October 2022 with no advisories or defects recorded. The previous test on 9 November 2021 was similarly clean, returning a pass with no advisories. This limited two-test window, with both entries clear of any flagged items, gives the car a superficially clean roadworthiness profile, but the absence of recorded defects over a two-year span should be interpreted cautiously. A vehicle approaching its twentieth year will inevitably accumulate wear on age-sensitive components such as suspension bushes, coil springs, brake pipes, and underbody fastenings, and the lack of advisories simply means none were formally recorded within that narrow testing window rather than that the car is mechanically pristine. Covering 99,804 miles across roughly nineteen years of service equates to an annual accumulation of around 5,250 miles, which is markedly below the typical usage rate for a vehicle of this age and class. Such light average mileage can stem from two very different real-world scenarios: genuine low daily use with regular running, or extended periods of standing followed by intermittent short trips. Both patterns carry distinct mechanical consequences. Genuinely low but consistent use tends to preserve major drivetrain components while still allowing routine wear items like tyres and brake pads to age. Extended standing periods, conversely, allow rubber components to harden and perish, brake discs to corrode on the friction surface, fluids to degrade, and the i-VTEC petrol engine to suffer from stale fuel, oil seal drying, and potential oil leaks once restarted. Without mileage records between tests showing progressive accumulation, it is difficult to determine which pattern applies here, and this uncertainty should inform the level of scrutiny applied at inspection. Given the multi-year span between tests and the age of the platform, particular attention should be paid to the suspension and underbody during any physical inspection. The Honda Jazz of this generation is known to suffer from rear torsion beam corrosion and front subframe surface rust, both of which warrant a thorough examination with a torch on a ramp or over a pit. The front and rear brake discs should be checked for lipping and corrosion, especially around the outer edge, as standing periods produce visible pitting that can affect braking feel and lead to judder under pedal application. On the test drive, listen for clonking or knocking from the front suspension over uneven surfaces, which would indicate worn lower arm bushes or anti-roll bar drop links, and pay attention to any pulling to one side under braking, which may suggest a binding caliper or a corroated flexible brake hose that has lost its flexibility. The i-VTEC 1.2 or 1.4 petrol engine fitted to this generation should be cold-started during inspection, as a cold start will reveal any worn timing chain guides, valve stem seals allowing oil misting from the exhaust on startup, or rough idle from tired engine mounts. Once running, check for any visible oil seepage around the rocker cover gasket, the cam chain tensioner area, and the sump plug, all common seep points on higher-mileage Honda units. Inside the cabin, the famously versatile Magic Seats and tailgate mechanism should be operated fully to confirm the struts hold the door and seat backs correctly, as gas struts weaken with age regardless of mileage. Finally, verify the service history directly, as the low annual mileage combined with the sparse MOT record means the regularity of oil and filter changes is the single most important factor in determining the remaining life of the engine and transmission, and any gap exceeding twelve months between services on a petrol Jazz of this age warrants a compression test or at minimum a borescope inspection of the cylinder bores before purchase.
