2005 Honda Civic 1.6L Petrol · LT05 AAX

The 2005 Honda Civic presents a mixed roadworthiness profile, with the most recent MOT on 2026-01-27 at 71,387 miles recording a pass and no defects. However, the history reveals recurring failures on identical dates (2025-01-28 and 2024-01-24) at similar mileages, both with no recorded defects. This inconsistency suggests potential administrative errors or repeated testing without resolution, complicating trend analysis. While the latest test indicates compliance, the lack of detailed defect notes limits confidence in the vehicle’s mechanical stability. The vehicle’s mileage of 71,387 miles over 21 years equates to approximately 3,399 miles annually, significantly below average for its age. This low usage could imply infrequent operation or prolonged storage, increasing risks of component degradation such as dry-rotted suspension bushes or seized brake calipers. The MOT records show minimal gaps between tests, with the 2024-01-24 test at 65,546 miles followed by a 2025-01-28 test at 69,068 miles, a 3,522-mile increase over 12 months. This pattern suggests sporadic use rather than consistent driving, raising concerns about hidden wear in systems reliant on regular operation. A physical inspection should prioritise suspension components, particularly coil springs and bushings, which may deteriorate without regular stress. The absence of brake-related defects in MOT records does not preclude latent issues like corroded discs or binding calipers, common in low-mileage vehicles. Structural integrity should also be verified, as prolonged inactivity can accelerate rust in underbody panels or chassis seams. Buyers should request full service history and scrutinise the MOT certificate for any unlisted advisories, as the provided data lacks specifics on recurring faults or corrective actions.
