2002 Volkswagen Golf 2.3L Petrol · M12 KBP

The vehicle demonstrates stable roadworthiness with no defects recorded in its most recent 2025-10-16 MOT at 20,266 miles. The prior three tests from 2022 to 2024 also showed passing results with no recorded issues, indicating consistent maintenance. The single 2023-11-02 failure at 19,330 miles is unexplained due to no defects listed, but subsequent tests show no recurring problems. This suggests the car has remained mechanically sound, with no escalating issues detected. The mileage of 20,266 miles over 24 years equates to approximately 844 miles annually, significantly lower than typical usage. This pattern implies infrequent use or prolonged periods of inactivity, which can lead to component degradation such as corrosion or seized mechanisms. The MOT records show gradual mileage increases, with the 2022-11-04 test at 18,627 miles and the 2023-11-02 test at 19,330 miles, followed by a 736-mile jump to 20,071 miles by 2024-11-04. These intervals align with standard testing cycles but offer limited insight into long-term wear due to the sparse defect data. A buyer should inspect for signs of prolonged inactivity, including rust on the undercarriage, suspension bushes, and brake calipers. The low mileage may have preserved consumables like tyres and brake discs, but components such as coil springs or exhaust systems could show age-related corrosion. The absence of recorded advisories or failures in recent tests suggests no immediate risks, though a physical inspection is essential to confirm the vehicle’s structural integrity and functional systems.
