2005 Toyota Hiace 2.5L Diesel · MA05 TWD

Structural corrosion and recurring suspension component degradation represent the primary mechanical risks for this vehicle, as evidenced by the most recent MOT pass on 15 November 2025. The inspection history shows a persistent trend of deteriorating chassis and underbody integrity, with the latest record flagging corrosion on the offside inner vehicle structure near a mounting and general underbody corrosion. This follows a pattern of long-term issues involving corroded coil springs and leaking shock absorbers that have appeared across multiple testing cycles since 2022. The vehicle has covered 195,739 miles over its approximately 21-year lifespan, which equates to an average annual accumulation of roughly 9,321 miles. This usage pattern is consistent with typical age-related mileage for a commercial vehicle of this type. While the mileage is not excessively high for the age, the cumulative distance combined with the recorded age suggests that mechanical wear on drivetrain components and suspension linkages is a significant factor in the recurring advisories observed in the DVSA records. Potential buyers should pay close attention to the chassis and structural components during a physical inspection, specifically looking for signs of advanced oxidation that may exceed the recorded advisories. The presence of corrosion on the offside inner structure and the underbody necessitates a thorough check for any signs of thinning metal or bubbling paint. Furthermore, the repeated advisories for corroded rear coil springs and oil misting from shock absorbers indicate that the suspension system is nearing the end of its service life. On a test drive, listen for metallic clunking or knocking sounds when traversing uneven surfaces, which could indicate failing coil springs or worn suspension bushes, and check for any bouncing or excessive oscillation that might suggest the shock absorbers are no longer providing adequate damping. Drivetrain and steering components also require scrutiny due to recorded issues with constant velocity boots and steering rack play. The history shows a pattern of severely deteriorated CV boots on both the nearside and offside rear drive shafts, as well as previous play in the steering rack inner joints. During the test drive, pay close attention to the steering feel for any looseness, wandering, or vibration through the steering wheel. Additionally, listen for rhythmic clicking or popping noises when turning the steering wheel at low speeds, which can be a symptom of failing CV joints resulting from deteriorated boots. The reported seepage from the power steering pump should also be monitored for any visible fluid loss or changes in steering weight.
