2004 Lexus IS200 2.0L Petrol · MF54 JKZ

This 2004 Lexus IS200 presents a stable maintenance trajectory overall, backed by clean passes in its most recent history. In the April 2023 test at 168,636 miles, the vehicle passed with zero defects or advisories recorded. This spotless outcome mirrors the preceding December 2021 test, which also yielded a clean pass without any recorded faults. Such a record points to attentive upkeep by the previous owner during these testing intervals, avoiding the accumulation of neglected mechanical issues. The mileage accumulation sits at roughly 7,665 miles per year across its lifetime, representing typical usage for a petrol saloon of this age. However, a significant temporal gap exists between the December 2021 test and the April 2023 test, spanning nearly sixteen months without a recorded MOT. While the car cleared both inspections without faults, long periods between tests or potential periods of sitting idle can accelerate seizing in mechanical linkages or encourage corrosion on underbody components. Prospective buyers should conduct a thorough physical inspection focusing on the rear subframe, sills, and suspension mounting points for structural corrosion, which remains common on high-mileage IS200 models. The inline-six engine and manual or automatic transmission run reliably, but checking the health of the rubber suspension bushes, brake discs, and binding calipers is essential given the age of the vehicle. Verify the operation of all electrical accessories in the cabin during a test drive to ensure that the lack of recent test failures translates into genuine mechanical soundness.
