2002 Volkswagen LT 2.8L Diesel · MK52 PWY

The vehicle presents a stable roadworthiness profile, evidenced by a consistent history of clean passes. The most recent inspection conducted in July 2024 at 97,624 miles resulted in no recorded defects, indicating that the LT currently meets the minimum legal standards. While a minor failure occurred in March 2022, the issue was rectified immediately within three days to secure a pass, suggesting the previous owner was proactive in addressing MOT compliance issues rather than allowing faults to accumulate. The mileage pattern is exceptionally low for a 24-year-old vehicle, averaging approximately 4,068 miles per year. Between March 2021 and July 2024, the vehicle covered only 3,527 miles, which suggests long periods of stationary or very light use. This low usage typically implies less mechanical wear on the drivetrain and engine, though low-mileage vehicles of this age often suffer from degradation of rubber-based components and seals due to time, which does not show up on mileage figures. Given the age and low mileage of this van, a physical inspection must focus on the structural integrity of the chassis and floor members, as corrosion is a primary concern for LT models regardless of distance. The tester should also check for perished suspension bushes and split boots, which frequently crack when a vehicle sits idle for extended periods. The buyer should examine the brake system for seized calipers or rusted discs, as infrequent use often leads to surface corrosion and hydraulic fluid degradation despite a clean MOT record.
