2006 Volvo S40 1.6L Petrol · ND06 MWZ

The vehicle currently holds a roadworthy status, showing a clear trend of improving maintenance standards. The most recent test conducted in February 2024 at 81,699 miles resulted in a pass with no recorded defects. This marks a significant shift from previous years where the car failed its initial inspections. The transition from repeated failures to a clean pass suggests that the previous owner finally addressed underlying mechanical issues or maintained the vehicle more proactively recently. The mileage profile is notably low for a twenty-year-old vehicle, averaging approximately 4,085 miles per year. Between March 2022 and March 2023, the car covered 13,012 miles, which represents a sharp spike in usage compared to its annual average. However, the usage dropped significantly with only 10,668 miles between March 2023 and February 2024. This irregular usage pattern suggests the car may sit for extended periods, which can lead to the degradation of rubber components and the thinning of fluids despite the low overall odometer reading. A buyer should focus their physical inspection on components that caused the failures in 2022 and 2023, although the provided record does not specify the exact mechanical reasons for those declines. Given the low mileage and age, it is vital to check for structural corrosion on the chassis and suspension mounting points, as stationary vehicles often suffer from surface rust. Inspect the braking system for seized calipers and perished suspension bushes, as these are common failure points on Volvos that age out rather than through high mileage wear.
