2003 Suzuki GS500 0.5L Petrol · NK03 VCW

This Suzuki GS500 presents a remarkably clean roadworthiness record, having secured consecutive passes in May 2022 and April 2023 without a single defect or advisory noted. This indicates a stable mechanical state during its active testing period, though it is critical to note that the vehicle has not undergone a recorded MOT since April 2023, meaning its current legal roadworthiness is lapsed. With a recorded mileage of 16,028 miles over a twenty-three year lifespan, the vehicle has averaged fewer than 700 miles per year. Such a low accumulation rate suggests the motorcycle has spent significant periods in storage rather than in regular transit. Mechanically, this profile shifts the focus away from drivetrain wear and towards the degradation of components affected by inactivity, particularly seals and rubber elements that can perish when not regularly cycled. Given the three-year gap in testing and the low annual mileage, a physical inspection should prioritise the integrity of the braking system and fuel delivery. Check for binding calipers or sticking pistons that may have seized during the period of inactivity. During a test ride, feel for any unevenness in the brake lever pressure or a lack of immediate bite, which can occur when a vehicle has stood for extended periods. Attention should also be paid to the condition of the fork seals and engine gaskets, as rubber components often shrink or crack during long-term storage, leading to oil misting or leaks upon return to service. Listen for any unusual mechanical noise from the engine during warm-up and ensure the gear change is smooth, as internal lubricants may have settled. Verify the current state of the tyres for flat-spotting or sidewall cracking before attempting any high-speed manoeuvres.
